Edinburgh Futures Institute is for students who want to work across disciplinary boundaries to address real problems, thinking deeply about the social implications of technological change, and learning in new and creative ways.

The Institute will offer a combination of named programmes in key areas, as well as a portfolio of project-led, interdisciplinary programmes designed to address critical aspects of our shared social and technological futures.

We are developing a unique hybrid teaching model which will enable students to choose when to be on campus and when to be at a distance, as well as developing new kinds of vibrant study and interaction spaces in the EFI building.

We want EFI Education to be accessible locally, nationally and globally, and to set a new standard for world class interdisciplinary higher education.

Leading Major Programmes

Major programmes are increasingly prevalent across the global economy to deliver critical transformations; but they need a deep multidisciplinary understanding of strategic risks. The complexity of major programmes with multiple stakeholders, technological innovation, new approaches to financing, governance structures, and data analytics requires wide-ranging knowledge and leadership skills. The demand for leaders able to navigate this complexity is extremely high within government and private sector clients, project managers, designers, contractors, delivery teams, project auditors, etc. Our MSc with its multidisciplinary mix of courses prepared through industry/ university collaborations will equip you with the skills required to organise for success, to manage for success and to develop the personal and collective qualities required to lead successful major programmes.

We are committed to offering a high-quality experience to all our students. We are working to minimise the impact of COVID-19, but we have reluctantly decided that we will be unable to offer this programme for entry in 2020.

We anticipate that this degree will be available again for entry in September 2021, but we are not currently in the position to confirm that. Applications for the next intake usually open in October.
