For further information please see the online course catalogue. Postgraduate Course: Representing Data

This course is a valuable introduction to this field for participants in a range of different roles and sectors, particularly for those from art, humanities and social science backgrounds. We do not require any prior experience of data analysis and representation, or programming. We will deliver the course in English and you must be comfortable studying and learning in English if it is not your first language.

Applicants must meet admissions requirements, which include an UK 2:1 honours degree, or its international equivalent. Alternatively, substantive relevant professional experience. We will allocate places to eligible applicants on a first come first served basis.

Places are online, as part of a mixed cohort with postgraduate students at the University of Edinburgh. We will deliver this course in a way that enables online and on-campus students to study together, using technologies to record and live-stream student and staff participation during their teaching and learning activities. Students will need access to a personal computing device – as a minimum we recommend a device with a physical keyboard and screen that can access the internet.

Delivery format

The course activities will run from 24 January to 28 March.

A range of scheduled activities (such as lectures, code-alongs, group discussions and supported workshop time) is offered on Monday mornings (10.00 to 13.00 and 10.00 to 12.00) on alternate weeks.

Activities are combined with reading, two formal assessments, and other self-directed activities. Edinburgh Futures Institute offers this course on a credit-bearing basis at postgraduate level (Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework level 11).

Eligibility for funding

EFI has a limited number of fully funded places supported by Scottish Funding Council (SFC) upskilling funds – places are limited to eligible students.

Eligibility for the SFC funding is limited to Scottish-domiciled students / ‘home fee’ students, and students domiciled elsewhere in the UK whose employers have a physical presence in Scotland.
