Elif Buse Doyuran is a postgraduate affiliate for the Data Civics Observatory and the project lead of The Platform Social, a research network of PhDs and ECRs that has received funding from the Edinburgh Futures Institute and collaborated with Data Civics on a series of workshops on the sociology of platform economies. She has contributed as a researcher to the CovidArcadia project, which explored the digital and material adaptations of small businesses in Edinburgh in response to the pandemic. Elif continues to support Data Civics in organising joint events with The Platform Social.

Elif is also a PhD candidate in the Department of Sociology. Her doctoral research focuses on the epistemologies and organisation of ‘nudging’ in platform economies, drawing on original interviews with product managers, user researchers, and designers. The first article from this research, titled “Nudge goes to Silicon Valley: Designing for the disengaged and the irrational,” was recently published in the Journal of Cultural Economy. Elif holds an MSc from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
