Culture & community

Connect with events, festivals, temporary and online exhibitions, and permanent artworks and installations.

Our Culture and Community team facilitates and shares work by our staff, students, and partners who creatively demonstrate our aim to make our research accessible to the wider community. We sponsor co-produced events, festivals, temporary and online exhibitions, and permanent artworks and installations around the Edinburgh Futures Institute building.

The location of our building, the former space of the Old Royal Infirmary, is representative of our Culture and Community work. Our building serves as one of the University’s front doors, open to the wider community. We honour the legacy of the former hospital, a beloved building in Edinburgh, by ensuring it continues to serve as a space that enables people to come together in different ways, in-person and online.

“I honestly think this is an absolutely VITAL project for the Futures Institute and the University of Edinburgh, in its timely, comprehensive and truly open-ended exploration of the future of intellectual endeavour within the context we live in.”
