Building Atlas is a UK-based tech firm that provides an AI-based platform for commercial real estate retrofit strategy. The company was founded in 2023 by Nick Taylor, Olga Khroustaleva, and Ralph Evins. It uses AI to provide strategic retrofit plans for commercial property portfolios, helping to identify high-priority buildings, optimize capital allocation, and save time compared to traditional energy assessments. The platform works by using only a building’s address to gather and analyze data from hundreds of public and private sources, including building physics, energy use, and market conditions, to give a portfolio-wide assessment in hours instead of months.
The company’s mission is to accelerate the decarbonization of the built environment and focuses on retrofitting “boring” buildings, such as suburban offices, mid-century retail spaces, and regional warehouses, which are often overlooked but can offer significant financial and environmental returns.
We’re excited to work with other startups and play an active part in the startup ecosystem in Edinburgh. As an AI-first, data-heavy startup, we’re keen to work with the university where we can, too. Edinburgh Futures Institute is a wonderful facility and we’re looking forward to colocating there!
