Open to undergraduate and graduate students curious about memes, AI, and digital resistance.
Can a meme be more than just a visual joke? Can irony be an antidote against automation? And what happens when AI tries to be funny?
Join us for a provocative and hands-on workshop led by Danilo Petrassi & Ian Rothwell exploring how internet memes function as a form of cultural resistance in the age of generative AI.
What to expect:
- An open lecture on the cultural and aesthetic power of memes
- A hands-on meme-making session using Imgflip
- A head-to-head discussion among participants: human-made vs. AI-generated memes
No prior experience needed — just bring your sense of humor, critical mind, and a phone/computer/tablet.
The workshop is free and registration is required due to limited seating: https://forms.gle/qLR3asdjCzYoqzJC7
Venue: Edinburgh Future Institute (Room 3.52 – 14:00-16:30)
