Kate Orton-Johnson is Director of Education in the Edinburgh Futures Institute. She is a Senior lecturer in Sociology and her research interests focus on Digital Sociology and understanding contemporary digital cultures. She is co-convenor of the British Sociological Association Digital Sociology study group and has a long-standing interest in the ways in which technologies shape our learning experiences. She also researches interdisciplinary ways of working in the context of understanding digital technologies, most recently in a Horizon 20/20 project developing on decentralised social media. ARTICONF was an interdisciplinary project studying use cases in crowd journalism, car sharing, video reviews and smart energy made up of a team of computer science, sociology and industry partners.
