Data-led methods and research technology

We build capacity for data-led research and innovative digital research methods at the University of Edinburgh.

We help researchers navigate the world of digital and data-led research methods, providing space for experimentation, innovation and skills development. We offer a range of support and services, from training and access to state-of-the-art equipment to bespoke software development.

Digital research project support

Our teams can support research projects at all stages from inception to completion. We provide advice and technical guidance, help to develop early prototypes and assist with technical troubleshooting.

Digital research sandpits

Our digital research sandpits offer a structured and supported space to incubate early-stage ideas by enabling researchers to work closely with our experienced team of research technologists in a dynamic process that encourages experimentation and learning. At the sandpit, we offer the opportunity to test ideas, create prototypes, explore requirements and lay the technical foundation for your project.

Training and skills development

Our extensive digital research methods training programme is designed to help our research community develop new skills and enable more effective research practice.  It is focused particularly on the needs of researchers in the arts, humanities and social sciences.  Courses range from introductory sessions on coding to deep dives into the affordances of particular tools and libraries. We also gather, develop and share training resources, offering guidance on skills development though our Training Pathways, and work in partnership with other providers to support related training initiatives.
