We are sad to hear of the death of artist Christine Borland. Our thoughts are with Christine’s family and friends. Last March we were delighted to welcome Christine to Edinburgh Futures Institute to celebrate the Edinburgh Seven Tapestry, the first major artwork in our building.
The Edinburgh Seven Tapestry is a triptych designed by Christine Borland and woven by Dovecot Studios using traditional techniques and innovative materials. It celebrates The Edinburgh Seven, the first women to matriculate at any UK university, who began studying medicine at the University of Edinburgh in 1869. The tapestry is an extraordinary tribute to pioneering students who showed resilience and determination when their path to education was blocked.
