About Joanna

Former non-medical staff member at RIE

Joanna used to work as a member of non-medical staff in the Cardiology department. The portrait is taken near 26 Simpson Loan, and Joanna is standing just above the location where her office used to be. Back in the 1970’s, looking up from her office window she could see the ward where she would work.

“I worked in Cardiology from 1969 until February 1973. My office was in the basement. Lots of cockroaches around, so bad our office was fumigated over a weekend. There was a camera club in the hospital and I often modelled for them. There was also a hospital magazine published. Can’t remember exactly which month it would be but in 1969 I was nominated as Miss Cardiology. My photo was published in magazine. I wish I had kept a copy. Years later I became a Clinical support worker in Maternity from 2004 until I retired 2018. Many happy memories of Old Infirmary at Lauriston and New Royal at Little France. “
