You Are Here is a generative artwork based on the live positions of the stars from a precise viewpoint on earth, in this case Edinburgh Futures Institute. The piece uses the cosmos to seed biology-inspired algorithms that generate vivid patterns evoking fingerprints, cells, animal markings and mycelial networks. The small, the earthly and the intimate range across the vast canvas of the universe. You Are Here invites you to reflect on the fact that all life originated in the stars, and that each moment in space and time is as unique as an organism’s DNA.
