Nesta designs, tests and scales new solutions to society’s biggest problems to change millions of lives for the better. They are working towards a Scotland where everyone has a fair start and can lead a healthy life into a sustainable future we can all thrive in.Their efforts are focused on three goals: Supporting child development in the earliest years to help reduce poverty-related inequality in education; increasing the accessibility, availability and affordability of healthy food to help halve the level of obesity; and helping people to get greener, cleaner heating in their homes as we move towards net zero.
To achieve these goals, they draw on a range of in-house expertise and capabilities from designers and cutting-edge researchers to behavioural scientists and data scientists, as well as sector experts. The change they are looking to make can’t be achieved in isolation, which is why they work in partnership to accomplish their goals. They collaborate with government, local authorities, businesses and industry, as well as researchers and academics, to understand the issues and implement effective solutions.
“Much of Nesta’s work involves partnering with a diverse range of individuals and organisations to test new ideas and shape the wider systems we live and work in. Being based in the Edinburgh Futures Institute offers unique opportunities to collaborate with dynamic, forward-thinking peers to make life in Scotland better.”
