Have you ever wanted to create a personal website for yourself, or a simple website about a project you are working on, but weren’t sure where to start? GitHub Pages is a free service that includes different website templates and is used by many academics for personal and project websites. While it requires some programming skills, it is easy to set up and highly customizable. During this course, we will help you set up your own website with GitHub pages, add content to it, and make small design changes if desired. You will benefit from this course the most if you bring a specific idea for your website, which might be your personal website, or sharing a research project you are involved in.
This course requires pre-knowledge. To follow the material you will need to have some familiarity with programming (but we will cover the basics of HTML, CSS, and Markdown in this course, so it is fine if your experience is in other languages) and GitHub. We will use the free software VS code as our main code editor in the course [Visual Studio Code]. To learn the basics of Markdown, you can have a look at this Programming Historian tutorial.
