This workshop will focus on developing practical skills for summarising and exploring data using R or Python. The session will introduce key concepts in descriptive statistics, including measures of central tendency, measures of variability and data distributions. Participants will undertake a guided pair-programming exercise in R or Python to calculate and visualise descriptive statistics in practice.
This workshop requires the following pre-knowledge:
- Minimal working knowledge of R, RStudio, or Jupyter notebook (Python).
- Ability to use the (tidyverse) package in R. Pandas, and NumPy familiarity in Python is beneficial but not required.
- Explain and compare measures of central tendency, justifying their appropriate use in different research contexts.
- Analyse and interpret different distributions of data using measures of variability.
- Apply R or Python to compute and visualise descriptive statistics.
