Beyond Precarity: Imaginaries, Constraints, and the Meaning of Platform Work

4th November 2024 11:00 AM 1:00 PM GMT

This talk will analyse the daily routines and economic pressures faced by today’s digital workers. By critically examining how their trajectories adapt to powerful infrastructures and economic forces within the technological landscape, the presentation uncovers the complexities of “platform subjectivities”, ways of perceiving the world shaped and configured by these platforms. I aim to compare different types of platform work, breaking down traditional silos. By intertwining narratives from gig workers, influencers, e-commerce sellers, and musicians in Chile, the exploration seeks to unveil shared experiences and nuanced distinctions.
