Leading speakers, including former Director of AI Ethics at Twitter, Rumman Chowdury, will explore provocative topics including leadership, AI and the future of work at a public event about universities in Edinburgh this week.
Dr Chowdhury, Responsible AI Fellow at Harvard University and the first US AI Science envoy, will be joined by a line-up of renowned luminaries for the two-day event including leading tech thinker and podcast host, Jamie Bartlett, award-winning author and higher education strategist Ben Wildavsky, and public health expert, Professor Devi Sridhar.
The University of Edinburgh’s Futures Institute event will bring together a broad range of perspectives to discuss the greatest challenges in our modern world and the risks we face as technology is increasingly embedded in our everyday lives.
The event, named Future University, will also explore how universities can shape and respond to external challenges such as ageing populations, emerging technologies, and geopolitical uncertainty.
The programme will conclude with an evening conversation with award-winning finance journalist, Sarah O’Connor, who is set to explore the impact of technology on the world of work and how universities can help to prepare younger generations for future-ready careers.
The event will take place on 17 and 18 September at the Futures Institute and online. It is part of a broader academic project in the Institute to reimagine what universities should look like in 2050.
