Two new exhibitions are on display this summer in our creative spaces at Edinburgh Futures Institute, available to view from now until July 2026.
Our latest digital artwork exhibition is titled ‘a space for encapsulation,’ while ‘The Body and Space’ showcases selected works which are part of the Edinburgh College of Art Graduate Show 2026.
a space for encapsulation

East Kilbride-based Andrey Chugunov’s ‘a space for encapsulation’ project encapsulation project consists of 41 one-minute video loops, each centred around digital artefacts hovering in void-like spaces.
The project explores the coastal areas of Scotland where industrial and natural structures have become interwoven, spaces which are at risk due to rising water levels.
The artist draws attention to the coast through emerging assemblages: hybrid environments where industrial ruins, military fortifications, drifting plastic, fishing threads and organic matter like algae, shells, armours and claws, mosses and lichens coalesce into new, unstable formations.
Each artefact is paired with fragmented monologues as subtitles—meditations on time, materiality, and humanity’s uncertain future from a geological perspective.
This work is co-commissioned by Aberdeen Performing Arts and New Media Scotland’s Alt-w Fund with investment from Creative Scotland and the University of Edinburgh.
The artwork is available to view from June to the end of July 2026 on our large digital screen at Level 2.
The Body and Space

The Body and Space, part of the Edinburgh College of Art Graduate Show 2026, features selected work from the Shanghai International College of Fashion and Innovation (SCF), a joint institute between Donghua University, Shanghai and the University of Edinburgh.
The exhibition showcases student work in Fashion Innovation and Fashion Interior Design; exploring ideas of form, identity and environment through a cross-cultural design curriculum comprising four-year study programmes created, integrated and delivered by ECA staff working from Edinburgh and on campus in Shanghai.
On 3 June, we held a reception with at The Body and Space show attended by the Chinese Consul General.
The Body and Space will run until 16 June in the Anthea Bond Exhibition Room, Level 1.
