Maggie MacKechnie Portrait

About Maggie

Former maternity patient at RIE

Maggie gave birth to her second son in the Simpson Memorial Maternity Pavilion. Albeit a difficult process, the birth healed some of the emotional wounds left by the tough experience of a C-section during her first birth. Maggie was singing throughout the labour, and was able to consciously welcome her son into the world. Recently, she expressed her experiences of both births and her relationship with her body through the cloth sculpture featured in the second photograph.

The portrait is taken on the 3rd floor of the western extension of EFI building, overlooking the area of Quartermile where the Simpson Pavilion used to be.
