Sandra Mackenzie joined Edinburgh Futures Institute in 2024 and leads on community engagement. Her role focuses on activities which create positive social impact and reduce inequalities for local communities. She facilitates projects, public events and organisational partnerships with the third sector to deliver positive outcomes for communities through the resources and expertise of Edinburgh Futures Institute; enabling the Institute and its vibrant community of staff, students and researchers to fulfil our pledge to be ‘open to all’.
Sandra joined the team after 20 years leading on learning, volunteering and community engagement programmes in the heritage tourism sector and has previously held roles in public engagement with research at the University of Glasgow.
She holds a BA in Fine Art (Sculpture) and an MPhil in Art & Design in Organisational Contexts from the Glasgow School of Art. She completed her practice-based doctoral thesis at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, University of Dundee exploring interdisciplinary approaches to research into creativity and learning in the context of fine art education.
