Dr Gina Helfrich leads operations and strategy for the Centre for Technomoral Futures. She works closely with the Director to deliver the Centre’s mission and activities, focused on the ethical implications of present and future advances in AI, machine learning, and other data-driven technologies. She also serves as Deputy Chair of the university’s AI and Data Ethics Advisory Board. Prior to joining the University of Edinburgh, Gina held several programme management and operations roles in the non-profit technology sector, including overseeing global technology programs to promote and protect Internet Freedom and digital rights. She formerly served as Director of the Harvard College Women’s Center at Harvard University, and she holds a PhD in Philosophy from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia with a graduate certificate in Women’s and Gender Studies. Gina has been a contributing columnist to The Scotsman newspaper and an invited speaker at South By Southwest Interactive (SXSW) and Columbia University’s Distinguished Lectures in Computational Innovation.
